Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
I have specialized in working with college and university undergraduate and graduate students since my graduate training and I have worked in six different college and university counseling centers. I have innate knowledge about the experiences that are relevant to college and undergraduate students and it is my mission to provide support in helping navigate the journey during this integral time of development. I have experience supporting students through general academic stress and concerns as well as compounding stressors relevant to diversity, culture and identity. Finally, I understand the intersection that other factors have during the college and university experience (i.e., family, friend and romantic relationship building and conflict, social injustice, financial stress, career uncertainty, etc.)

My name is Kira (she/her) and I am here to help you heal relational wounds. Relationships are foundational to our experience. Connection, intimacy, and feelings of safety are all tied into the relationships formed with ourselves, our communities, and even the natural world. These interactions, or lack thereof, shape our stories and affirm the kind of narratives we tell ourselves about the world around us. You and I’s relationship will act as a conduit for understanding these messages with the intention of cultivating greater connectedness. If relationships are the chapters within our stories, identity is the color and context that fills the pages. Our roles and identities are interwoven together to create the way in which we move through the world. My experience as the eldest child to Caribbean immigrants informed me of this at an early age as I realized not all of my parts of self were allowed expression. I came to understand that the cumulative burdens of family, society, and ancestry not only impacted myself, but everyone around me. The persistent stigma and lack of accessibility for quality mental health care is just one example of these collective burdens. For that reason, my practice is rooted in the belief that decolonizing mental health is essential for fostering genuine healing. I aim to expand traditional frameworks by valuing cultural diversity and understanding the role of historical trauma in shaping individual experiences. Together, we will navigate the impact of these legacies on mental health, promoting an inclusive and holistic therapeutic process. I look forward to connecting with you soon.

People come to me for support with worries, mood difficulties, adjustment to life changes, identity exploration or relationship issues, and to learn ways to both change and adapt. Whatever brings you to this process at this time, it’s important that you find someone you can develop a sense of safety and trust with in order to bring your full, authentic self to the work. The therapeutic connection is a huge part of successful therapy, so my work is first and foremost relational in nature, through which I help you define your goals and together develop a plan to meet them.
I practice with science-supported strategies to help people reduce stress, make health behavior changes (e.g., eat healthier), and adjust to illness or injury. I also work extensively with individuals who experience anxiety, depression, body image concerns, and disordered eating. I am trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and positive psychology interventions. I conduct teletherapy and am licensed for residents in North Carolina and all the states in PSYPACT (https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/psypactmap) . At Taylor’s Touch of Clarity, we work best with college students who feel overwhelmed, stressed, or uncertain—even if everything looks “fine” on the outside. Many of the students we support are balancing classes, work, family expectations, relationships, and the pressure to figure out their future, all at the same time. You may be experiencing constant stress, anxiety that makes it hard to focus, low confidence, or feeling stuck in your own head. Some students come to us feeling burned out, disconnected, or unsure of who they are becoming. Others are navigating depression, self-esteem challenges, relationship concerns, or major life transitions. If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and support is available. Our practice is built on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where students can openly talk about what they’re going through without feeling rushed, labeled, or misunderstood. We focus on meeting you where you are and tailoring care to your individual needs, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. At Taylor’s Touch of Clarity, counseling is a collaborative process. We believe progress happens best when clients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their growth. Our clinicians work alongside students to build practical coping skills, increase emotional awareness, and strengthen confidence in both academic and personal areas of life. Using a client-centered and strengths-based approach, we help students identify their values, recognize their strengths, and develop tools to manage stress, anxiety, mood challenges, and relationship concerns. Our goal is not just to help you get through college, but to support you in building skills and self-understanding that will serve you well beyond it.
