Though it may be difficult to see the opportunity for healing and change in the midst of a struggle, seeking help is a first step toward new possibilities. I am dedicated to building a deep relationship with you and provide a private and safe space for you to explore your concerns. Through the process of self discovery many find greater equanimity, purpose, and compassion, and an expanded capacity for love. My specialties include identity concerns, existential challenges and crises, cultural adjustment, life transitions, depression, anxiety, loss and grief and trauma. I enjoy working with college and graduate students, international students, and young adults. I also enjoy working with creatives, scientists, healthcare professionals, activists and meditators and bring my own direct experience with meditation and creativity to my work. My therapeutic lens is psychodynamic and is deeply informed by Buddhist psychology. I integrate mindfulness practices, meditation, breath work, and Compassion Focused Therapy in my approach. My practice is collaborative, holistic, and flexible, holding space for all aspects of wellbeing, the emotional, physical, spiritual, relational, and creative. I have been the field since in 1994 following a career in the arts. I have worked in college counseling centers, community mental health and hospital settings and have been in private practice since 2004.

I’m a psychologist licensed in both Massachusetts and Kansas who spent 5 years working in college mental health. My approach to therapy begins with the idea that all people have an inborn drive to grow and make continuous progress in their lives. But, difficult life circumstances often interfere with our natural capacity for growth. Negotiating life transitions, having relationship problems, and managing overwhelming responsibilities can make it hard to feel like our true selves. I strive to provide a warm and reflective space where you can take a break from the chaos of everyday life, observe your experiences and emotions, and reconnect with your core values. I am also an analytical thinker who can help you identify and understand different patterns in your life, both ones that can help you grow, and ones that have been getting in your way. I do my best work with people who feel misunderstood in their lives. If you frequently feel out of place because of who you are, or if you often find yourself being the only person "like you" in any given situation, I’d like to work with you. Through our collaboration, I hope to provide an experience that can help you transform your feelings into a productive creativity that you can carry with you for the rest of your life. If you think that I might be able to help you, please contact me so that we can talk and find out together whether my approach is a good fit for you. Unfortunately, because I am a staff psychologist at KU, I am unable to see students from KU at my private practice for therapy or testing.

I am currently accepting self-pay clients! During therapy sessions, I hold space for people facing all types of life experiences that encompass our collective human experience. Some key areas that I support individuals with are finding relief from anxiety through the cultivation of self-regulation and nervous system support, navigating major life transitions, healing from traumatic events, past or present, and exploring ways of living that are in alignment with one's true desires. I strive to help individuals build a relationship with themselves that are rooted in compassion and self-acceptance. As our imagination becomes activated and absorbed in the freedom of art and play, our linear or rational thinking processes of labeling and making judgments are temporarily suspended. This temporary suspension allows us to access our intuition (heart, center, wisdom, spirit, true self) and deepen awareness of our thoughts, feelings and experiences in life.

Female-first psychiatric care. If you’re navigating a new season of life—trying to conceive, pregnancy, or perimenopause—or looking for support with treatment of a specific condition such as PMS or PMDD, PCOS, ADHD, depression, or anxiety, I want to offer you the expertise, compassion, and genuine care you deserve. I am a Harvard-trained and board-certified psychiatrist specializing in women's mental health and reproductive psychiatry. I take a conservative approach to medication, taking the time to listen to you and help you make empowered decisions about your mental health. I provide medication management and psychotherapy through a female-first frame: putting you, your needs, and your wellness at the forefront of our work together. I view my work as an opportunity to help women feel seen and supported through the most transformative stages of their lives. My patients’ unique needs are at the forefront of my practice: hearing them when others have not listened, acknowledging their challenges when others have downplayed them, and empowering them to take control of their health, wellness, future, and family. Hello! My name is Allisha, and I am a compassionate therapist dedicated to helping women and non-binary individuals navigate life’s challenges. I specialize in supporting clients dealing with anxiety, trauma, family concerns, better understanding themselves, relationships and building effective tools. My approach is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs, while gently challenging maladaptive thoughts to foster growth and healing. I create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to explore their emotions, including uncovering inner childhood experiences that shape their reactions and actions today. Using evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and EMDR , I aim to provide practical tools and insights to help you overcome obstacles and achieve emotional well-being. Together, we can work toward your goals and create positive, lasting changes. I look forward to connecting with you!
I believe therapy is a place not only for understanding and working through struggles but also for growing and creating more joy and connection. I love working with people who are curious about themselves and may label themselves as a highly sensitive person (HSP). Those who feel intensely and are acutely aware of the hurts of others. Those who find themselves giving time and time again to others while sacrificing their own needs. I also have a special interest in complex and childhood trauma (those who were hurt, neglected, abused, or not loved properly as a child). Together we can work to notice, identify, and tap into your inner strengths. We will challenge messages you may have gotten growing up that no longer serve you (you have to take care of others, you are too sensitive, you don't belong). And we will help you develop greater self-compassion so that you can take better care of yourself, do the things YOU want to do, set boundaries with others, and ultimately foster more joy and connection in your life.
