I have always enjoyed working with children and adolescents, but expanding to teens, young adults, and middle-aged adults has been incredible! I assist with addressing a variety of problem areas including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, anger management, academic difficulties, impulsivity/hyperactivity, symptoms related to trauma history or exposure, relationship concerns, family conflicts, life transitions, and daily stressors. In collaboration with the client and their families, I gather information and assist with developing targeted treatment plans to help clients work toward their goals and improve their overall well-being. Creating a safe and comfortable environment for my clients is what I strive for so clients can feel they can be free with their thoughts and feelings without the fear of being judged. I utilize interventions from models such as Client-Centered Therapy, CBT, DBT, Play Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy as counseling progresses and needs are identified. While there are many important factors involved in the counseling process, I believe that one of the most critical aspects of therapy is a strong therapeutic relationship. I utilize my ability to empathize and connect with clients of all ages and backgrounds to develop those strong therapeutic relationships with my clients.

I am here to help—to help you move beyond the mental roadblocks and anxious feelings that seem overwhelming and are holding you back; to help you reset and reconnect with the feelings of comfort and calm that have gone missing; and, above all, to help you build your sense of empowerment to move through the world on your own terms with feelings of independence, confidence, and pride. I specialize in helping teens, families, and young professionals navigate life’s transitions. Maybe you’re struggling to find your feet at a new school or office. Maybe you’re ramping up to make a major decision. If you’re a parent, maybe you’re feeling like you don’t recognize your child anymore, or maybe your recent efforts to help are coming up short. Whatever the case, I am here to help. When you come to my office, you'll find a warm, laid-back setting-free from judgement. You can expect that I'll honor your own sense of process and tailor our sessions to reflect your unique situation, which will evolve as we begin to enact the plan we establish together. Congratulations on taking this courageous step.

My clients are people who often feel stuck in their thoughts, whether those thoughts are anxious, self-critical, perfectionistic, or filled with doubt. They might be struggling with OCD, social anxiety, phobias, trauma, or just the overwhelming pressure to always get things “right.” My clients come from a variety of background and identities. I’m Zitong ZHENG (Denice). I’m a bilingual (English and Chinese) fully licensed therapist (LCPC) currently providing services in the Chicago area. For now, I'm only accepting refugee patient at Mount Sinai Hospital. Therapy may be new for you, may be not. But no matter anytime you choose come to a session, give your own credit for that braveness! Feeling of sad, nervous, stressful, lonely, confuse, anxious, fear, mad, helpless, hopeless, pain, shame, guilty, and fatigue etc.....these feelings are definitely difficult to cope with and get through in life. Hope therapy can be a safe space for you to talk and provide you insight to understand then express your feeling. In the past practice, I worked in different settings such as hospital and private practice, I’ve been working with client who are from young adulthood to late adulthood with various diagnoses/race/sexuality/gender identity/SES status. I'm open to listen your story and thoughts, to do some exploration with you, then find consistent strategies together that can be useful for you and be kept for the rest of your life. My main approaches are person-centered therapy, psychodynamic, existential, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and narrative therapy. I believe the interpersonal process in therapy sessions is really important for therapeutic effectiveness which can bring you new experiences and insights. I would like to openly discuss about what kinds of methods are exactly working for you. Therapy is not only a treatment which is provided by therapist, also a cooperation between both of us. I would also emphasize the equality and genuineness among therapy. I believe every people is expert for their own life, sometimes we will neglect our own potential. I would also appreciate and respect all people's belief, attitude, and identity. I hold non-judgement attitude for client. There's no right and wrong in life. As a past international student, I’m able to validate the feelings of: challenge, hardness, loneliness, stress, and helplessness that every client is going through. I hope I can provide a safe space for you to talk, and offer you support as best as I can. I know life has too many unspoken moments, which does not only happen during language translation. I hope to create a place for you when you are in need. Every feeling is important, you are important.

If you’re feeling weighed down by responsibility, self-doubt, or the pressure to always “have it together,” I’m here to help. Managing your emotions and difficult life challenges does not have to be something you do on your own. By identifying personal barriers and understanding your story, together we can unpack and release the things that no longer serve you. I use an integrative therapeutic approach and individualize treatments so clients can regain a sense of agency and obtain new skills to make change in their lives. Whether you’re facing tough transitions or just feeling like you’re handling so much all at once, I hope to guide you in taking the shame out of emotions, —while making space for humor, celebration, and emotional clarity. Even if you are hesitant, let's set up a consultation call to see if this would be a good fit for you!
