Therapists for college students near Boulder, CO
Over the last 25 years I have worked with clients who are seeking, peace, healing and develop insight and self-awareness. In my work with clients, there are several treatment modalities utilized, primarily CBT, Somatic Therapy, Whole Person and art therapy. One of my primary focuses with my clients is to create and/or improve their self-care plan since it is instrumental in managing daily stressors and mental health concerns. Self-care is important for me to also have in place and my self-care plan includes photography, being an avid football fan (and most sports), time with my friends and family
I offer virtual (online) sessions only at this time. Some sessions can be made by appointment if openings are not noted on my calendar - just ask! Sometimes the anxiety and depression that come with life changes, trauma, relationship issues or job stress can be distracting and affect our ability to thrive. When people work through their thoughts and feelings, they often report feeling more clarity and a deeper sense of vitality and purpose. You can expect to be gently challenged to explore your experiences in a safe, kind and private space when you work with me. I've helped people find more confident self expression in decision-making and relationships. I've also had people report performing better in sports, school or the arts. Many people find themselves making better, more positive behavioral changes as they feel better emotionally. I use an eclectic mix of theories, often including psychodynamic work, in therapy to include the entire person: mind, body and soul. I try to educate and empower people to use practical tools they learn in therapy in realistic, lifelong ways. It takes courage to be vulnerable and acknowledge you'd like some help along this journey. I know because I've been there myself. Take the first step and I'll meet you there.

When Life Doesn’t Go According to Plan - THERAPY FOR LIFE AFTER LOSS, TRAUMA, & PROFOUND CHANGE You may be thinking, "This is not the life I ordered." Many of my clients once had a clear sense of where life was headed. Then loss, trauma, or unexpected change altered the path. Clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, stuck between versions of their life, or exhausted from trying to “move on” from something that still deeply impacts them. This work isn't about finding a bright side. It's about making space for what happened, understanding who you are now, and learning how to live in a life that no longer resembles what you expected. My practice focuses on grief, trauma, traumatic grief, reproductive trauma and loss, relationship challenges, family-of-origin issues, self-esteem, identity shifts, and major life transitions. I work with individuals, couples, and families ages 15 and older.

I work primarily with young adults who are navigating that in-between stage of life—college, early career, shifting relationships, and figuring out what’s next. Many of my clients come in feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of themselves, often dealing with anxiety, depression, or big life transitions. I tend to be a good fit for students who are looking for more consistent, ongoing support outside of a short-term counseling model. I also have experience working with clients who are struggling with higher levels of distress, including suicidal thoughts or self-harm, and I aim to provide a steady, supportive space where they can feel safe and work toward stability. My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical. I focus on helping clients better understand what they’re going through, build coping skills, and feel more grounded and confident in themselves and their decisions. Because my practice is fully virtual, I’m able to offer flexible scheduling that works well for students balancing classes, work, and other responsibilities.

They are interested in understanding themselves and cultivating healthy coping strategies to deal with the challenges of our modern world, with the ultimate goal of thriving, not just surviving. They understand that we all have the opportunity to continue growing and want to live a more self-expressed life by identifying and challenging negative and self-limiting thinking patterns. I compassionately support and validate my clients, while also encouraging them to take on the challenges in their life. I have significant experience with mindfulness practices and believe in the power of creativity (writing, music, art) as a therapeutic tool. Most people are settling for less than what their lives can possibly be. I am committed to helping you lead a self-expressed life and to help you see all the ways that you are a gift to yourself and others. I do not have all the answers, but I believe that together we can inspire each other and produce breakthroughs you may not think are possible.

I generally work from a feminist and person-centered lens while flexibly incorporating techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as appropriate. I prioritize collaboration with my clients in order to identify their goals and to ensure that they are getting what they want out of treatment. Are you Autistic and/or ADHD and struggling in a world not designed for your neurotype? Or do you suspect that you may be Autistic and/or ADHD and want to work with a down-to-earth neurodivergent psychologist to find out? Are you looking for a therapist who gets the struggle? I offer collaborative and neurodiversity-affirming assessment and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) tailored to the needs of Autistic and ADHD clients. Assessment may help you better understand yourself or your child. I offer neurodiversity-affirming Autism and ADHD assessments for all ages, and have a special interest in clients whose autism and/or ADHD are masked by other factors such as high cognitive and/or verbal ability, gender, race, age, or other psychiatric diagnoses. DBT may help you understand and manage your thoughts, feelings, and behavior to align with your goals. I offer DBT (group-only or comprehensive DBT) tailored to the needs of Autistic clients, and am currently co-authoring a manual for Guilford Press on tailoring DBT for the needs of Autistic clients.

I provide meaning-centered counseling for individuals navigating trauma, chronic pain, and long-standing stress. My practice is grounded in the belief that experiences are held not only as memories or thoughts, but also within the nervous system as patterns shaped over time. When appropriate, I integrate body-based tools and insight-oriented approaches, supporting students who may understand their experiences intellectually yet continue to feel trapped in how their body responds. Work is paced, collaborative, and attentive to context, readiness, and lived experience rather than quick symptom fixes. My services are offered through in-person sessions in Frisco, Texas, and via secure telehealth across the state. My private practice is self-pay. For those wanting to use insurance, I also see clients through Legacy Trails Therapy, where select plans are accepted under supervisory billing. This can be discussed during consultation.
